What can I do for you?
Have you written a script and need an editor, someone to come alongside and read and advise, to take you to the next draft or the next step?
Have you an idea for a drama or a book but don’t know how to start.?
Are you looking for guidance about treatments, storylines, and bibles?
Have you written several drafts of a script but you can’t find a producer who will take it on?
Do you have a story you are burning to tell, but after an exciting start you’ve run out of steam?
If you’re saying ‘yes’ to any of those questions, maybe I could help. I’m your personal editor, tailoring my service to your needs, from a simple single read and report to a working relationship, taking you from a blank page to completed second or third draft.

Script Writing
One of the wonderful aspects of screen writing is the team work involved. We are alone as we face the blank screen, and we stay alone for that first draft, but then the rest of the team comes piling in, a script editor, producers, director. And of course, of course, you tell yourself that much of the time they fail to understand your perfect imagery, your insight is too deep for their shallow understanding, they are too straight laced for the richness of your dialogue… the fools! And then you realise, they are making this thing better! That’s the fun of script writing with someone at your side. Together you make it even better.
It’s not about stripping away the you-ness of you, bleaching out the colours of your language, or strapping your flights of fancy into a straight-jacket, but together we will create scripts that are easy to read, intriguing, have clarity and dramatic shape, and – most important of all – say what you want to say.
When the script is done, and fit for submission, with 35 years of experience and knowing the current state of play, I will guide you to the producers and broadcasters most likely to be receptive to, and hungry for, your talent.
The book you have inside your mind
If I had a pound for every person who’s said to me “I have a book in my head but I just can’t get it down on paper” I would have enough for a decent meal at The Ivy (no, not the one in London, a pub I know of, down a distant country lane). I can help you to find a way to tell your story; if it’s already half-told but stalled, together we can find the problem and move on, if the story is told but you need someone to read it and advise you, here I am, and if you haven’t even started yet because you don’t know how to shape it, we can dive into the story together, looking at narrative forms to find the one that suits you.
Am I going to tell you the secret for writing a good novel? “There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.” So said W. Somerset Maugham.
But I know one thing for sure, nothing is written if it’s never started.
I can give you the confidence to start.
